During daytime sunlight is is turned into electricity and stored into a battery attached at the ottom or top of the lamp post. During night time electricity from the battery feeds the bulb. Programming of the duration and brightness of the streetlight can be done individually or controlled by ambient light. For example full light from begin of darkness till midnight, half from midnight till sunrise or any other variation possible.
Light source might be chosen among flourescent light, sodium light at different pressure or led light according to the needs and budget. In areas with constant or frequent wind speed above 4 m/s a small wind converter can be combined with solar power.
